Awareness

I remember the first time I became aware of hairy arms. I was about 9 years old and on a trip back to my home country – Nicaragua (Central America). My entire family lives there, except for my immediate family. My first awareness of female hairy arms were on my cousins. They were about 5 to 7 years older than myself, so hitting their teens and in their teens. They were very confident about their natural looks. And all of them were just full of arm hair. At the beach one day, one of my cousins did not shave from the knee up to the thighs, which I remember thinking that’s strange – she couldn’t care less. I don’t recall if I myself had hairy arms at this age as I wasn’t aware of it or didn’t care. My aunts also had substantial arm hair. It’s natural and they don’t seem to care or be bugged by it. I went back 6 years ago for 4-months and again, they were still sporting the hairy arms. It’s part of them and they just see it as a natural thing and don’t pay much attention to it and there isn’t a mentality that women with some visible hair is considered unattractive or whatnot.
I think I’ll fit right in when I go back this December and also when I visit Dominican! It seems like anything south of the states hasn’t been completely consumed by a single generalized view on beauty.
